An Aspirational Example
Sabbaticals are a (mostly) routine offering in the world of clergy. This is certainly true in my mainline, UCC context. Every five to seven years, pastors are offered time to study, retreat, and generally take time away from the day to day of their work.
Occasionally these sabbatical times become contentious. As routine as they can be in the church world, those outside of it can be rightly critical, noting that no one is offering them a sabbatical. It seems unfair then that your pastor would get this paid time away. It can seem unnecessarily luxurious.
